OK, I know that upon installing the u-joint bellow that I need to use Bellows Adhesive in the housing flange and let it set-up a bit with the bellows on. Then tighten the clamp with the screw at the 2:00 position.

What about at the drive end of the bellows?
Does it just seat around the flange or should I put bellows adhesive on that side as well?

Thanks guys

Volvo doesn't say anything about using bellows adhesive or any kind of sealant on the bellows.

Thanks, Don.
I have a transition year OMC/VP 94 and I have an old OMC manual that I'm using. Didn't they used to glue the bellows at the housing?

So you just clamp it at the housing and lip seal it on the drive?
Its that easy?

Thank alot.

crestapre, im in the same boat as you, i put my NEW u join bellows on using adhesive on the bellows to hold them in place, but as i learned, thats not recomended, and as Don said, and he would know, not to use any, also per Volvo. That was my first and last lesson from Seloc manual, where they say use sealant on the drive. 50 bucks later, and about 30 minutes of my own labor i replaced the bellow again, this time with no sealant on anything. As stated on this forum, use a OEM manual. Seloc and others SUXXXXX

Wait a minute....Here is a scan from the Volvo Penta repair manual which states to use Volvo Penta gasket sealing compound on the u-joint bellows.

Re: SX U-joint bellows install

Basically, if you want to use it, it won't hurt anything. But the newer manuals and service bulletins do not even mention using it.
Probably something to do with OMC being on board on the earlier models. and OMC wanted it on everything. But it's not needed. The bellows is rubber and acts like a seal. The clamp pushes it tight against the housing. The groove and ridge in the bellows keeps it from slideing off. Why glue it on too?

reel poor - nice post man! i havn't yet installed that new u joint bellow i bought, reading this makes me feel a whole lot better, the manual i have, new , also doesn't state anything about sealer. but the mechanic i talked tois a journeyman so he's probably been using it since the omc days. glad to know either way is safe so long as you install them correctly! thanks!!!
