symptoms of failed head gasket?

burned my head gasket due to impellar failure....took old gasket off, melted...in a couple of spots...what symptoms would i have with a failed gasket....?

Poor compression, poor performance, water in the cylinders, total powerhead bearings destruction from water-caused rust.

would the motor still run....possibly? what would i look for in the cylindars to determine damage... i looked and they seem to be in good shape...no scoring...anything else to look at?

Yes, it can still run with a new gasket. Overheating almost always does some engine damage. Depends on how lucky you are. The greatest damage is posible piston skirt scoring. That will cause poor idle, or worse. Only an inspection will tell the story for sure. You do that by removing the exhaust cover (s). You should do that and replace the burned gaskets anyway. You didn't say what motor your have. Some fare better than others.
