Can someone tell me what are some possible symptoms of an improperly shimmed driveshaft for 1976 OMC, Ford 302, 190 hp, Stringer?

Depends on which shims.
Would be better if you say what your problem is, along with why you think it's a shimming problem.
Did you rebuild the drive, or replace gears or bearings without reshimming?

Re: Symptoms of Improperly Shimmed Driveshaft

I had new bearings put on the driveshaft. I raised the engine to drive the shaft out of the housing. The bearings in the old housing had ground into it; therefore, I needed to replace the housing. I assembled the drive shaft and housing according to the manual but I was a bit uncomfortable with the shimming, although I placed a shim on the drive. There is now a thump in the housing that occurs about every five to seven seconds. I took the boat out to the lake; the engine runs excellent while idling and revving it up to 2000 rpms. But, when trying to accelerate while in gear beyond 1500 rpms, the engine stalls because it appears the carburetor is flooded. After running it at the lake, the thumping sound is louder and I can see the engine move when the thump occurs.
