A friend of mine sells Amsoil and reccomended their 2 cycle oil. He uses it in his boat and says it runs great. He also runs it at 100:1 instead of 50:1 Any thoughts on using synthetic oil in a Motor?

Synthetic TC-W3 is fine.

100:1, ???????

I remember OMC tried to go to 100:1 back in the mid eighties, and it caused problems.

If it is approved TC-W3 it will be ok. Stick with the 50/1.

synthetic oil is great but if your tow vehicle called for 6 quarts would you put 3 quarts in? Run 50:1

Ive heard Synthetic is Biodegradeable.
Dont mess with fuel ratios it can be very
costly. I accidently ran at 100:1 reg. 2Cycle oil
made it almost the whole season.Cost me $800.

Re: Synthetic 2 cycle oil.

Amsoil is TC-W3 API TC JASO FC approved.
This is copied directly from the label.

AMSOIL pre-mix 2-cycle oil (ATC) is recommended for water-cooled and air-cooled pre-mix applications. Mix at 100:1 for normal duty service in motorcycles, outboard motors, snowmobiles, weed eaters, lawn mowers, and chain saws. For "severe service" applications which include reacing motors and hot-operating workhorse motors that run continuously for extended periods of time, richer mix ratios of 50:1 to 80:1 are recommended.

Personally I will run 50:1
AMSOIL supposidly guarantees no damage at 100:1 and will repair or replace equipment damaged due to oil failure.

Don't shoot the messanger....Just typing as it reads.

Ron
The Fishin Musician

"AMSOIL supposidly guarantees . . . ." I'd bet that if someone tried to take them up on that warranty, They'll wiggle out of it some way. How can you prove you've used there oil at the correct ratio?

Some of the high performance guys run the stuff at 100:1. One of the top-line Mercury race engine builders sez too avoid it like AIDS. I run Penzoil Synthetic Blend @ 50:1. It works for me.

c/6

Hooty

In my humble opinion...If Amsoil was so great all the mfgs would be using it or selling a clone oil just like it. For every good Amsoil story there are probably 1000s just like it from guys using the cheapest oil available. Outboard usually die from poor maintenance and operator error, not poor grade oils. One thing for sure, you are greatly reducing your margin of error by halfing oil ratios. I would do exactly as the mfg says and forget any other way.

Amsoil makes 3 different two stroke oils:
1) 100:1 Pre-mix (ATC) This is made for pre-mix only (not injector use). It is safe at 100:1 ratios, and many racers have used it for years at that ratio.
2) Injector/Pre-mix (AIO) Safe for pre-mix at 50:1 or injector use.
3) Series 2000 Racing Oil (TCR) Pre-mix at 50:1 or injector use in high performance or racing engines.

Run the 100:1 (ATC) at 100:1 or 80:1. It is made to run at that ratio no matter what the manufacturer recommends.

Run the others at 50:1.

Dave
