I put synthetic lower end lube in my 1982 Johnson 50 for the first time as opposed to the old style SAE mineral oil. I once heard a machinist state that you shouldnt ever return to mineral oil once switching to synthetic because of the fact that they do not blend and actually repell one another - possibly causing future lubrication problems - any info on this or do you think its a myth?

It is A Myth...HAHA....if this was true then the synthetic blend oils would come out as 2 products...unless the oil says 100% synthetic..the oil will contain some regular oil as a base....

If it would cause a problem switching from it , why wouldn' it cause a problem switching to it.

Just curious - why use more expensive synthetic oil in such an old engine anyway? I'm wondering about the rationale because I have two older engines (a '74 and and '83).
