Started to replace the vro on my 140 Evinrude and like an idiot did not check before ordering. Was told it had a 3 wire VRO on it and instead turns out has no wire pump on it. The book says to go with harness # 174710.The harness I ordered # 176709 seems to be missing 3 wires. Anyone know if I can adapt the one I have or do I have to order the harness. If it can be adapted, directions on how to do it if possible please. Thanks

Re: System Check

What's your year model and model #? I thought they were either 3 wire or 4 wire systems. Most retrofit the 4 wire system for the additional alarm.

Re: System Check

1985 - 140VRO Model E140TLCO Article I read was sent to me by Ancient Mariner Member #1031. Article was in Bass & Walleye boats Jan 2000 & tRAILER bOATS Feb 2000. After reading it says to use harness 174710 for 84 & 85 engines that did not have warning systems. Mine has the buzzer but I cannot see any wires on it at all. Unless they are well hidden in behind the pump?

Re: System Check

Sorry a little more history, I am deaf and after buying the boat realized I could not hear the alarm. So IO decided to install the "System check" on the boat. Fellow I bought it from told me it was a 3 wire VRO. I took his word for it and ordered a new 4 Wire VRO along with the tach and the harness to convert 3 wire to the 4 wire. I started to get things ready to install and looked at the VRO on the boat and realized that<br />it had no wires. The harness I bought has the 4 wire connector and the instructions to add the 4th purple wire from the new 4 wire to the motor to add the extra function. Only problem I have is that I don't have the other 3 connections on the motor end. OMC instruction sheet also states to get the 174710 harness. Being miles away from anywhere, I thought I could make my own harness.
