Re: System Check

George....the gray wire is the tack lead (signal) and the black is ground. Should be all ya' need. The other wires give you signals for your VRO warning alarms.

Re: System Check

George, on that wiring harness, there should be 3 wires in a group that are not being used with a system check tack...provisions were made to allow use of a standard tach, and the group of purple, grey, and black should already be there, just maybe ty-wraped up......they should even have terminal ends on them already. All harnesses after 1995 had this feature....... :)

Re: System Check

Use the extra wires for your tach, but for educational purposes, here is the wiring code that was posted a while back on another site.<br /><br />If you just want to use the tach function of the gauge, here's the pin configuration (looking at the back-side of the gauge, holding it upright):<br /><br />1-2-3-4<br />8-7-6-5<br /><br />Purple wire goes to pin 1<br />Black wire goes to pin 2<br />Gray wire goes to pin 3<br /><br />Grounding these pins, will activate the following:<br /><br />Pin 4, turn on no oil lite<br />Pin 5, turn on low oil lite<br />Pin 7, turn on check engine lite<br />Pin 6, turn on hot lite<br /><br />Pin 8, is used to activate the warning horn, it supplies a ground to the horn circuit when any other warning circuit (pins 4 thru 7) is grounded

I can't believe this site. It's like google for boat guys. This thread is 7 years old and it's exactly what I need.

btw, I found the same thing listed this way so I thought I would share.
