I have a 1996 90Hp (Model E90ELEDR). TOday, after a bit of water skiing I pulled the cover off the motor to check temperature on each cylinder bank. I noticed the port side was hardly even warm, the starboard side was hot, I could place my finders on the head but could hold them there but it was hot.

I’m assuming that the port side thermostat is gone, right? How hard are they to replace on my own?

When looking at the back of the motor are they behind the black plugs above the spark plugs?

Thanks marinemech,

Any special seals, or sealant needed?

BTW would this also cause engine to run a little rough when its warm?

Re: T-Stats on 90Hp

As an aside, starboard cyinders will always be 'warmer' due to the circulation of water thru the engine.
DHP

Re: T-Stats on 90Hp

Thanks DHP,

Pulled them out today and tested them they appear to be working fine.

Is there any sealant that is needed to replace them I noticed that there was something on the threads before.

Sorry if the above questions are dumb but I just purchased this boat and never owned a v4 Evinrude before.

Re: T-Stats on 90Hp

no sealant required but if you use gasket sealing compound on screw thread it helps
