T-stats

I have a 200 hp (Carb) Mercury and recently changed the t-stats. It had a nice flow out of the telltale before changing them, and now it only does after they open up. The old stats had a slot cut in the part of the valve that opens and the new ones do not have that. Is there more than one t-stat for these motors? <br /><br />Thanks, <br />Coolmaker

My book show all V/6 the same 75692 merc--AP#403--sierra#18-3553 and all have a slot cut in them

Thanks Laddies for the reply.<br /> The ones that the dealer gave me do not have the slot cut in them!!! So I am at a loss..... Guess that I have to order them for another source. <br />I took them out and installed two stainless steel washers that had the same outside diameter of the stat and a 1/4 inch hole in the center. That is what we did years ago when racing. It worked good last Sunday, but it did not show much water pressure at idle (3-4 lbs.) Ran perfect though. The temp gauge ran slightly lower. Showed 15-16 lbs. water pressure at 3/4 to WOT.
