T&T question

Johnson 90 model J90TLCTE. I'm having a problem retracting the trim rams. When I manually lower the motor via the release screw on the transom bracket, the tilt ram retracts but the trim rams remain out. Am I missing something? Should the manual release screw lower both tilt and trim?
Thanks in advance!

Dave

Re: T&T question

The trim rams rely on down pressure from the tilt cylinder to retract. You need to supply that force by standing on the back. That will get them down pretty quick. It will go down eventually anyhow, but it takes a long time.

Thanks WBW,
I'll try and stand on it. So just loosen the manual release screw and wait?
Thanks again.
P.S. my trim motor is on the blink, that's why I'm wondering how to lower the motor manually.

Re: T&T question

Ok, it's been a few days and it still hasn't budged. Stood on it,bounced on it, etc... Could there be a hydraulic lock in the line somewhere? I could use the boat without power tilt and trim, but my motor is trimmed(not tilted) all the way up and won't go down. I can lift the motor up and down w/the screw loosend and fluid squirts out the hole(manual release screw hole) when lifting, but the trim rams remain out and won't move.
Any ideas?

Thanks again,
Dave

Re: T&T question

4 days and counting...I don't think they're gonna go down. Can I loosen one or more hydraulic lines to release them? I know with the vast amount of knowledge here someone has to know the solution.
Sorry to be a PIA but the fish are calling me and I need to go out and get 'em!
Thanks again

Dave

Re: T&T question

Thats the way the unit reacts. Any I've seen anyway. But fluid should not be coming out the manual relaese either.

Actually you'll need to open the release at some point in order to get the old motor out.
