I'm about to poke holes in my boat...and wanted to get any thoughts, advice or experienced input from anyone willing to take the time....

I have a semi-v 26" footer with an I/O merc 330 trs.

I have a remote troll bracket and a JohnRude 22" shaft 8.0 fourstroke outboard motor...

what does any/everyone do with the outdrive while running the kicker? conceivably if I turn both motors towards each other there could be an issue ?

I have the 20' foot button operated steering controller for the remote-troll bracket (which has an electric motor on it to turn it's little transom) but I'm also wondering about a steering arm to connect the main outdrive to the kicker motor..to steer with the main steering wheel....would that be best?

any thoughts?

When you install your "kicker motor" keep it either to the "far" port or starboard side of boat, and the "linkage" or the bar that connects steering always kept mine in tune with each other. I had an aluminum kicker mount, and I was able to steer both engines with the main steering wheel. Worked great for me? Other guys like having their kicker engine "manually controlled". It's whats best for you? D.

I was under the impression I need to be closer to the center line / main outdrive to get better steering?

in the picture I was thinking of installing that bracket on the ground just to the right of my trim tab piston.

Re: kicker motor mounting experiences?

I've had a kicker on every boat I ever owned. Some transom mounted (O/Bs) and some on brackets (I/Os).

Mount it on your starboard side, as far outboard as possible. Make measurements first to be sure it'll clear the trim tabs. Mount it as high as possible in the lower mounting holes. That way you'll have room to move down if necessary. Put a metal backer plate on the inside of the transom and secure with at least 1/2" bolts.

If you tiller steer, leave the main outdrive down and centered. Don't raise it up. If you want to steer with the main helm, either get an EZ-steer, or buy some QD ball joints and a SS rod and you can make your own steering link.
