Just got my manual, will be rebuilding carbs, etc. Question is......

1990 Bass Buggy 18 and 1990 Johnson 60
Bought new, how can I tell if the tach that came with this set-up is accurate? Link & Sync instructions call for an accurate tach. If my tach is accurate, then my set-up has NEVER run over 5000 RPM, and I bought this from a Tracker dealer. As I recall when it was new, WOT was right at 5000 RPM, and now it is right at 4800. Was 4500 until I de-carbed 2 weeks ago(first time it was ever done), so de-carb was somewhat effective. This forum has really opened my eyes, and I want to get this motor tip-top, which will seem pretty simple with you folks' guidance. I'll check tomorrow, but I'm 99% sure prop is 14x13.

Re: Tach Accuracy??

Look at the back of the tach. It should be on position 6. I have a feeling the tach is accurate (actually I hope it isnt). A 56 cid motor set up at 5000 will coke up the rings fairly quickly and act just as you describe. With this set up (if the tach is accurate) the motor is destined for a short life.

Lets get a compression test and see where we're at.

Good luck!
