Tach and volt meter not working

Hi i installed a new rectifier on my 1991 175hp, and the tach worked untill i hit upt 4000 rpm then it went to 0 i slowed down and when i reached about 2000 rpm it worked again then when i went to rev up again it died again. The volt meter worked because when i reved uo it gained about 2 to 3 volts. when i got home i ran the motor and the tach does not work now. Any help will be apreciated,Thanks,Lazaro.
