I have my tach and trim guage from my old motor (2001 Tohatsu 40 2 stroke)

I just repowered with a 2011 4 stroke Yamaha 40

The wires don't match up, the tach has 3 settings "4P", "6P", and "12P"....

Will either of these guages work with my new Yamaha outboard?.....Thanks in advance for any help....Warren

Re: Tach Compatibility issue

the tach may it will depend on how many poles or pulses the new motor is and on the trim gauge, it is my understanding that's dependent on the ohm value of the trim sender units.

Re: Tach Compatibility issue

As already stated you can probably get the tach to read rpm if you have a 2,6, or 12 pole alt on your new motor. My concern would be the "other" functions. The correct Yamaha tach will also have low oil pressure and high temp warning lights and siren. I know you proabably are trying to save money but I would not want to be without those functions. IMHP I would spend the money to get the right instrument for peace of mind on an expensive new motor.

As for tilt and trim I have one on my yamaha 50 and never look at it. I trim by the feel of the boat and the rpm and well, its pretty easy to just look at the motor. But f you need to fill a hole get a yamaha one of those to match too.

Re: Tach Compatibility issue

Unfortunately upgrading to this outboard has exhausted my funds...

I've looked online for Yamaha gauges but they are way out of my budget right now...

Also, for my little 13ft whaler I would prefer analog gauges and I don't think Yamaha offers them.......Warren
