I have a Merc XR2 150, and the tach does not work. Can someone please let me know where on the motor is the connection for the tachometer?

Also, what is the correct tach speed for a Merc XR2 150hp at idle?

Re: Tach connection for Merc XR2 150

Is there anyone that could please provide me with a schematic of the wiring within the power packs to connect my tach to?

Am I correct on saying that the connection to my tach is within my power packs?

Someone please assist me.

I have also read several threads on this forum concerning a link for wiring schematics pertaining to the tach. the link is http://www.tflx.com/PDF/99320.pdf, but it is no longer available.

Does anyone have this pdf file?

The tach is connected to the AC side of the stator that charges the battery. If you have a rectifier, connect it to the yellow wire. If you have a VR, connect to the grey wire.

It's the gray wire comming off the Voltage Regulator. It should be pin 5 on the main harness connector. There's also a connector on the controls that gets a feed from the tach. It hooks up to the trim sensor so you can trim but not raise full up with the engine running. Quick hint for future reference.. If that sensor (should be located on the the trim unit) goes bad (shorts out) or your tach is shorted, the engine shouldn't run. Older engines like my 100hp Mariner use a mercury switch to do the same thing.

I don't own the engine, I'm reading the schematics which DOESN'T MEAN I'M 100% RIGHT but the odds are pretty good.
