Howdy, just got back from the lake last Saturday after spending the summer fixing up a 1983 evinrude v4 90 hp I bought off ebay for $400. I did have to overbore one cylinder, re-ring the one under it (starboard bank) and knocked the glaze off the other two but everything else works great. Thanks to all who contributed to my posts. Well, I have at least two more questions.

One, the motor did not have a key, so I pulled the keyswitch off my old Chrysler and got everything working except the killswitch. I have not ohmed it out yet but wanted to make sure the black/yellow wire on the switch was correct, with the other being ground.

Second question is on the omc remote, there are three wires for the tach under the keyswitch. The boot that connects to the remote is still attatched and has three holes in it. What is the part number or name of the ends that crimp on the end of the wires and into that boot that connect up to the remote? OK, three questions, are they the same connectors as the coil boots?

Thanks again!

Re: tach connectors/kill switch wire color

I just ordered the plugin part for my 81 75HP. If we are talking about the same thing, the part number from teleflex (I don't know OMC #) is IH14767.
Again this is the tach wiring harness with the 3 prong plugin, going from the remote to the tach. see link below

http://www.iboats.com/Tach_Wiring_Harness_OMC/dm/keywords.ih14767--*******.091029291--**********.209282754--view_id.169183

the drawing on the link looks square but I have been insured that it was the round one for evinrude

Re: tach connectors/kill switch wire color

Howdy glastron, thanks for the reply. cant tell from the drawings, but i'll bet thats what i need. in the old days, we would build up rs232 cables (now most everything is ethernet) and the male pins for the tach plugin look like overgrown 232 pins on the harness side. probably what i should do is just order the harness and be done. went to all automotive places and nobody has ever seen the pins to crimp on the end of a wire. need to try radio shack. i havent had to buy a new coil YET, but if i did, does the orange wire come with an end on it to plug into the boot or how does it come?
