Tach/Fuel Gauge Questions

I have a 1996 Starcraft Fishmaster 190. The tach issue is that it always reverts to 1500 RPMs when the ignition turns off. It appears to be accurate at higher RPMs, while running the motor, but kind of erratic at lower rpms. A lot of jumping around in the lower range.

The gas guage question is that it always reads full. I've cleaned the contacts at the point where the wires connect to the gas tank ascending unit on the top of the tank, but it made no difference in my problem. Every once in a great while it will drop below full and give what appears to be an accurate reading from what I consider the amount of fuel I think I've used, just not often. Do I need a new guage or an ascending unit at the tank?
Are there some tests I can run on both my fuel and tach guages to narrow the probem down?

Thanks for helping.

Re: Tach/Fuel Guage Questions

You might post in the electrics forum. Make sure the ground on the fuel tanl and gauge is clean and tight.

Ditto for all three connections to the tach.

BTW - A lot of tachs show the last RPM when the ign is turned off, and zero upon ign power being restored. Does that sound like what your's is doing?
