tach hookup on 74rude 115hp

I re-covered the boards around my gauges with new vinyl and when I took the gauges out I noticed that the tach wasn't connected to anything. It only has 2 wires. Black and gray. Black is the ground for sure. Where can I hook the gray wire to to get a signal?

there should be a gray wire coming from the engine, and terminating inside your control box. Otherwise, it needs to go to one of the terminals from the stator (you will have to check your wiring diagram for what one)
