Tach hookup

How do I hook up this tach ? It's the original tach from my 79 Silverline . we're does the gray wire hook . I see pos. and neg.

Wasn't hooked up when I got it . So maybe not

Then the best thing to do is buy a new tach.

Looks to me to be the type that would be for the older points & condenser type ignition. For sure there's no way it would function with either engine you mentioned.
