I was using my boat this weekensd and noticed that the Tach was jumping around and not actually displaying the correct RPM. If I tapped the guage it would then go back to the correct RPM. Any easy fixes or is it just time for a new guage?
I would check the connections on the back of the tach. I bet that will solve your problem. Don't just look at them, remove each one, clean corrosion off it, and put it back on.
