I just bought this potoon and took it out for the first time. It has a evinrude 150 xp on it. All gauges work except for the tach. I checked the back of the tach to see if anything was loose and all was tight. When you first start it up the tach will jump up a little then go back to zero. What can I look for?

Re: tach inop.

Without knowing year or model # if your tach isn't working is it charging yuour battery? If not then possibly your rectifier/regular is fried. Other wise check the connections for corrosion especially the ground wire. Good luck.

Try to tap on it with you fingers. I have the same issue and when I tapped on the Tach's glass, it started to work. Give it a try and see if that make your works.

Re: tach inop.

Take a voltage reading on your battery before you start the engine; then aftr you start the engine you should have a reading higher than that with engine off. If not, then you are not charging and that indicates a rectifier not working and a inop tach. Good luck.
