Evinrude 150 tslcca engine. How and where is the rectifier on this. How can I check the tach.. WHen engine off and no power the needle is setting at 1000rpm. When you turn key on the needle goes down to zero and doesn't move. New to this and need some help. Thanks.

Re: tach inop

dwells, I answered you about checking if engine was charging on your other thread. The rectifier is at the back of the engine partially under the flywheel which has to be removed before you can remove the rectifier. I wouldn't do this until you are sure its not working; these things are pricey at best.

The only way to check this is to have a peak reading voltmeter or an ohmmeter with a dva adapter. You should have 9.5 volts on the gray wire with mtr running at 1000 rpm which feeds your tach. Some tachs will act like yours and it is normal.
