Tach install

How and where do you hook up a tach and is it possible to mount one permantly on my boat? I have a '72 rude model 25252. The manual says a tach can be installed on any engine but does not say how to do it. Thanks Guys

I was just told of a grey wire going to the control box ,manual it appears to lead nowhere, carefully cut the black sheathing at box and connect there..
