TACH METER NOT WORKING. RPMS METER?

2 200 H.P. 1992 JOHNSONS. RIGHT TACH WORKS. LEFT TACH DOES NOT.TACH DOES NOT MOVE KEY ON OR OFF. PUT METER ON ONE NOT WORKING GETTING VOLTS TO. NEW KEY SWITCH PUT ON LEFT MOTOR. CHOKE WORKS MOTOR STARTS FINE RUNS FINE SO SWITCH MUST BE WIRED OK. HOW DO YOU CHECK A TACH FOR GOOD OR BAD?<br />CAN IT BE WIRES FROM MOTOR? WHAT WIRES WOULD IT BE?

Connect the working tach to the engine that the not working tach is connected to now. If the tach works than the tach that was not working is junk. 99% of the time, if you have voltage at the tach (between the "G" and "S" terminals on the tach) and the tach does not go to zero, the tach is bad.
