Tach not right...

Ever since the batteries were wired wrong, (don't ask - he paid for new ones), the tach will not work right.

I'm wondering if the tach is bad or since the poles on one of the batteries were reversed, could it have messed up the coil. Everything runs fine, but the tach is WAYYYY off!

'73 165 OMC inline 6. The coil has a resister or ballast on it. I have since installed electronic ignition, (which it had originally and the tach worked fine then). When the battery was installed incorrectly, it burned up the elect. ign. so a buddy put points in it for the weekend to get me through. Like I said, I've reinstalled elec. ign., but the RPMs it is showing are not "real".

Any suggestions appreciated!

Tach hasn't registered right since the whole "battery incident". Tach didn't work right when the points were installed.

Dang. I guess it's off to ebay!
