Re: tach not working
Put a voltmeter on the battery and start the motor (on muffs or in the water) and see if the voltage goes up with the revs. If not, replace the voltage regulator. The tach signal comes from there. If it's blown, the tach won't work. The leading reasons for regulator failures are loose and/or corroded battery connections, and connecting the battery backwards.
