About mid summer my tach quit working, it is stuck on about 2500 rpms. I checked the connections on the back of the gauge and they appear good. Where should I start looking?

If it's stuck at 2500 no matter what the rpm, then you need a new tach.

So, if I get a new tach is there a way to input the correct engine hours from the old one?

Ayuh,... If it's that important to ya, write the Extra hours on the back of the gauge...

Hour meters don't mean Squat to anybody that knows better,...

It's a maintenance tool, 'n nothin' more...

If you are sure the tach is "toast", why not see if you can take it apart to see if there is some trash stuck to the needle some how keeping it from moving? I mean if the tach is no good presently, what do you have to lose? Could just be some trash sticking it and you could clean it and it start working again. Just a simple thought...

After checking prices I think that's what I'll try first. Like you said what do I have to lose

Because the connections are tight does not mean you have +12 volts, ground and a sense signal. Check them. If one or more is missing fix it. Then if the tach doesn't work, it is toast (and it very likely is).

While corresponding with the Faria gauge people about resetting hours during a tach rebuild (Faria doesn't do it) they gave me the name of an outfit in Florida that would repair the tach and reset the hours. Didn't keep the email because Faria said this place charged $85 per hour. Sounds like a place where expensive equipment would be sent, certainly not Faria, Teleflex, Sierra, etc.

You have a Faria gauge, they will rebuild it under their lifetime warranty. They charge a nominal fee to do it. As for the hours, like was mentioned above, write down the # on the back of the gauge. This way, you will have the same look as the other gauges. Look on their website for warranty repairs and authorizations.
