tach pole setting?

i have an 88 bayliner with the us marine tach and up graded from a force 125 to a 1998 mercury 150efi. i need to know if i have to reset my tach. it has 1-5 or 6 on the knob on the back of my tach.

You have a 12 pole alternator that produces 6 pulses. Therefore the switch gets set to "6P".
