I have a 1991 Johnson 90 horse, I dont think my tach is working correctly. I have been doing some prop adjusting and things dont seem to be adding up. My other clue is that when the motor is shut done the prop dial sits on 8000. My question is. Is there a way to test the tach, or do i need to get in the shop?

The hand resting up above zero when turned off is normal on a lot of tachs. It should read correctly when the engine is running. Best way to test it is to compare readings with a known good one, like a portable shop tach.
