Well I have raised my engine. Bought a new Stilleto stainless prop, dropped from 17 to 15 on the pitch. And I did gain a couple hundred on the motor raising but the change from pitches didnt change the RPMs at all, it did make the hole shot alot better, and I lost maybe one mile per hour or less. Here is my problem though when the engine is off the tach still reads 800 I think it started this after I raised the motor. Is there a way to test the RPMs on the motor without using the existing tach. By the way the motor is running at 5200 RPMs now according to my tach. My GPS says 36 MPH. I was getting close to 37 on my old 17 pitch factory aluminum prop.

Re: tach problems?

The tach may read any figure on the gauge when the engine is off....It IS important that the tach goes to zero when you turn the key "on".
As I've said before, 200RPM gain by lifting the engine is a HUGE gain! And to top that, dropping 2 inches in pitch, yet only 1mph difference. Those are VERY positive results.
What hole is the engine mounted in as it is now?

One hole left. I havent messed with the jets yet. IF I put it in the last hole I will be well above the cavition plate. As it is now think I am an inch and a half.

Without knowing all the details, I'm guessing that might be high enough...

If you really have to know, you could try it higher, but there is always the lack of water pressure possibility.
