tach problems

on my 86 omc 4.3l tach is inop. using a test light i have good power and ground to tach also using test light with ignition on light lights up on the signal wire(gray) the tach is also set to the # 3 postion for a 6 cyl. anything else i should check before buying a new tach

Mine was reading 5K at idle and went up from there. It is a Faria and was able to get it factory rebuilt for $40. The nice thing is that it still matches the other guages and didn't spend $160 for a new one.

Put a small flat head into the dial on the back of the prop. Turn it full left and full right like 10 times. Mine was bouncing all over the place but this little "trick" fixed it. It's the cheapest option. If that doesn't work get a new tach.
