Thanks for the responces to the many questions I have been asking lately!

But here's another!

I have a 1977 55hp Johnson Seahorse OB, model # 55EL77D.

I would like to add a tach but not sure if I can! Can a tach be added to any motor or does it have to be an option installed in the motor in order to do so?

Any info on this subject and my particular application would be a great help!

Re: Tach Q's

Yes a tach can be installed in any motor. Some motors are wired for a tach and simply need to be connected up to a matching tach.

I can not tell you if a 1977 55hp is wired or not but what a lot of people do is install a TINY TAC. They have tach made for many type motors and will sell you one that will work on your Motor and tell you how to wire. They have units that work off the alternator and units that work off spark plugs. So look them up on the web and search for the right unit for your motor. Some also come with an hour meter.
