Tach Question?

I have a 1989 Johnson 28HP with the original factory Johnson controls. Can I hook up a tach to this setup? If so what kind? I have seen the aftermarket tachs (Tiny Tach) and was hoping to I could use something different. <br /><br />Thanks, <br /><br />Aaron

You should see a black plug with three connections inside just below the key switch.<br /><br />That is for a full size tach. <br /><br />You should be able to plug in a full size tach with the OMC cable adapter.<br /><br />A harness like this.<br /><br /> http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg...ometer&**********=227704004&*******=344040765

DJ, I have a question myself. I have a tach hooked though my controls via the plug like you mentioned. Actually I have two questions. What are the three connections for? I have a plug with one wire run from it, for the tach. The other question is what is the little black knob back there with the key and plug that can be loosened?

Oh my motor is 77 Evinrude 85hp, I assume the controls are original with motor
