tach question

I have read all the posts about installing tachometers I have an 84 Charger boat and I put my 84 115 johnson on it in the dash it has a tach that reads Chrysler I guess this boat came with that motor on the back of the tach <br /> <br />ligt grnd sig and a dial with 1234 thats all. can I use this thing with my Johnson?or should I get a new one.

Don't think the chrysler tach will work. Best to get a new one and be sure it can be set to "6" pole....

Well I was curious so I hooked up the pulse wire(grey) to the signal post and the ground and the thing works. IO don't know how true it is says 1000 rpm at idle with the muffs seems OK

If it is going to work set it on position 4. I have an old tach off my Merc and it says on the back of it for a 12 pole stator, set to #4. It worked fine for many years.

Well I ran the boat todayin the lake and the tach does not work looked ok at home in the driveway at idle maxes out at about 2000 rpm's time to get on for a 6 pole
