tach question

been looking on e-bay for tach for my 1974, 2 cylinder 40hp evinrude, how do i figure what will work, what does pulse mean. thanks Phil

Outboard tachometers usually work by counting Stator pulses. There are usually settings for different stators, used on different motors. Why not find a new tach listing for your motor and see what the pulse count is and then renew your e-Bay search.

Tachs actually count the poles in the flywheel. On your mtr you should set the tach to 5 P position.

hey guys, still trying to get my tach hooked up, looked all over motor for gray wire, none tried to connect to all connections on terminal block hooking the other wire, black to ground then hot nothing, my tach is an older aqua meter and dont actually know if it works, there is ajustments on the back but i haven't moved anything yet because i figuard it should at least move the neddle once i get it hooked to the right term then will try to adjust to correct setting. any help will be so very much appreciated. thanks Phil
