96 Larson 174sei volvo/penta 3.0. I replaced my steering cable and of course moved several wires and connections behind the helm. My tach now rest on the 10000 side instead of the 0 side. I have not started the boat after replacing the steering cable. Any ideas what caused that to happen of how to correct it.

Thanks for all the help!

Re: Tach question

Texsun,
From my heavy equipment technican experience with guages,it sounds like you have somehow swapped your tach signal in, and tach ground wires. Or your guage is not reading a ground at all. double check your ground and tach signal in connections.

Re: Tach question

For whatever reason, charged the battery and started it yesterday. Whenever I began to roll the engine over the tach moved back to the correct position and began registering rpm's. I guess all is well.

Re: Tach question

Texsun
The tach gets its power from the acc position of your ign switch and will zero as soon as it's powered up. It's completely normal. When the tach burns out it'll not zero when you turn the ign switch to acc. I replaced mine last year.
