I have a 1984 75hp with the quicksilver control box. there is a tach setup in the front of the control box a little plug with 3 or 4 prongs. I dont think i can find the other end that fits in there anymore. Is there any different way to set up a tach  I've heard running it off the rectifier works but who knows. :D

Any suggestions?

Re: Tach setup on 75hp

The feed for the tacho originates at one of the yellow wires on the rectifier. It then enters the harness and is taken up to the control box, where it goes to the plug on the control box that you are referring to... Normally there is a harness that plugs into that 4 or 5 pin connector that takes the tacho signal, +12v and ground to the tacho.

You could break into the control box and tap off the tacho signal, +12v and ground, and run them to the tacho, or you could buy the harness from Mercury... You will need to identify the control box, or know how many pins are in the connector. They produced control boxes with both 4 and 5 pin connectors, so you need to know EXACTLY which one you have....

Me again :D

Re: Tach setup on 75hp

Achris, I figured out the problem with the kill switch. What a dummy i am like you said, it was the safety toggle switch wasnt turned to RUN it was off :D:D also ordered the tilt lock pin so im guessing i just shove it through one of those grooves till its at the right level .

aside to that, What your saying is that i can open the control box and just cut off the 5 pin plugin and just run the wires from each wire going to the plug directly to the tach??

I wouldn't do it that crudely, but yes... I'd make it nice and neat... As I don't know which control box you have I can't tell you the wire colours... Post a picture of the control box and I can tell you the colour codes....
