My 88' merc 4.3l seems to be idleing at a lower rpm than my tach is reading, is there an easy way to check your actual rpm, or test the accuracy of your tachometer?
tach is reading @ 800 at idle. Itmay be right, it just doesn't seen that fast.

We had my dad's truck parked next to it. It was ideling @700, and it seemed faster than my boat.
800 is great I have a 4.3 86 18ft idle at 800 also drop it in the water pump the gas 2 times turn the key goes to 800 and stays there all day its perfect you dont want 1000 and put it in grear 800 is nice on the outdrive when engaging it into forward or reverse
