Tach wiring 85 hp

I recently purchased a '77 85 hp mercury. I was wondering how many pole alternator it is and where to hook up the Signal lead.<br />Thanks, <br />Rick

12 pole 6 pulse, hook the signal wire to either yellow wires at the rectifier

It is being shipped to me even as I write this. It is suppose to be ready to go in the water. New carb kits, Etc. I have to buy the control, Harness and cables yet. I bid for them on Ebay and the seller is reluctant to give me the shipping cost. I'm going to chech with the local dealers her this week to see if they have the items. I also ordered the Seloc book from Amazon.com<br />Rick
