Tach Wiring

I recently purchased a 1994 17' Vanguard with a 90hp Force outboard. It's my first boat, so my knowledge level is low.

On my first trip to the lake, I noticed that the tach was reading very high. From the healthy sound of the motor, and speed (30 - 35mph) I don't think the motor was turning anywhere as fast as the tach said (7500 rpm). My guess is that the tach is set for a 4 stroke, and is indicating that the 2 stroke is running twice as fast as it actually is.

Is this a problem with the tach, or a wiring problem. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Tach Wiring

Make sure its a 20 pole tach. If its anything else its going to read wrong.
