Tach wiring

I just orderd a 20pole tach for my boat. It looks like it has 3 connectors, bat, neg, signal. Obviously the bat and neg are + and -. From reading other post on this forum, it seems that the purple wire should be the signal. Is that the same purple wire that is in the picture below? The picture is the wiring harnes that comes out of the control box and mounts under the dash.

Also, should the bat and neg be hooked up directly to the battery(fused) or ran through the switch?

Thru the switch as a light in the tach will stay on and kill the battery.Yup the purple wire.
What are we working on? Some cases a grey wire is taped back and that will be the signal.Sometimes the purple wire is for the hot.J

anyway you can tell us what tach you bought and were i bought all new gauges but having a hard time finding a tach to match and i need a 20 pole also

I bought it from GreatLakes Skipper stock#1017268. They have one other one that is a 20 pole.. stock# 1017910. For the first one, they also have a matching speedo.
