Tach wiring

I am not sure if i should post this here. if not i would be happy to move to another forum. 1990 Johnson GT 100 I have an old boat that i bought used. The tach. was hard wired instead of using a wiring harness to the OMC plug. Should i get another plug to put in the control box and run a harness, or will it be ok hard wired? If i need to replace the plug where could i get one? Thanks for advice.

If is not broken why tinker with it, if you would feel better because it would look better then go to your johnson dealer and get the right harness---Bob

thanks bob. I just wanted to make sure if moisture got in the box it would not damage anything in the future.
