i just upgraded from an 85 horse force to a 120 force. Im in the process of switching motors.<br />my 85 tach was a 20 pole does anyone know if a 120 is also 20 pole

90 - 120 HP prior to 1991 is a twenty pole.

12 pole 6 pulse. This is where I looked it up. it has the instructions for hookong up tachs. I hope it helps you. http://ww2.tflx.com/PDF/99320.pdf
