tachometer accuracy

I'm pretty sure my '97 454 doesn't run 5600 rpms. I suspect the tach is off. I don't recall it ever reading as high. What if anything could happen "overnight" that might cause this? Is there a way to check?

only way i know to check it is to put a second tach on that you know is reading correct check all the conections make sure they are clean and tight
