Tachometer for '77 Evinrude 85hp

I'm looking to install a new (preferrably OMC) tachometer to replace the older unit currently in the boat. What should I look for in finding this tachometer? I have heard things like "6p" and "12 pole alternator" and "pul/rev".<br /><br />I'm clueless as to what all this means. Can anyone help?<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Joe

An OMC tach will come with directions for setting. On the back side of the tach is a rotary switch to set the pulse setting. On OMC engines, the alternator drives the tach.
