I bought an aftermarket tachometer for my boat. Can someone tell where to hook it up? The instructions indicate to hook it up the the distributer (car). Will this type of tach work on my boat?

I hope you have an old car to use that tach on. It won't work on your outboard. You need an outboard tachometer that gets a signal from the alternator. A 6 pulse/12 pole alternator to be specific. Most of them qualify.

The wires are already in the remote control. Purple is 12V+, black is ground, gray is tach signal. Make sure the gray wire is connected to the terminal going to the rectifier on the motor. An alternate tach made back then connected to the amplifier. You don't even want to go there.
