Tachometer installation

Hey guys!

I just purchased a new boat without a tach. I want to install a tach and am wondering how I determine which wire should be connected to the signal? Is there somewhere on the engine that I should be looking or is this wire usually a certain color? thanks.

You haven't said what motor, so ...
purple = switched 12 vdc
grey = tach sensor
black = ground

Look at the remote control, it may have a plug for such a purpose. That makes it a simple plug-in operation. You will have to buy the plug/cable to go to it.
