I recently purchased a rebuilt Evinrude1988, 115. The tachometer on my boat was not working when I had the old motor on it. The mechanic wired the new motor to the tach. It would work intermittenly for a couple of weeks, but recently quit altogether. Stuck at 4500 rpm. Well today while I am idlying down the river I smell something burning and sure enough it's coming from my console. The wires attached to the tach were overheating and melted the back of the tach. I killed the motor, removed the wires from the tach and taped them up and restarted and finished another 4 hours of fishing with no more problems. Question: Is there something wrong inside the motor electrical system or do you think the tach just shorted out? What if anything should I do. I plan to call the mechanic that installed the motor tomorrow.
Thanks
jimpittman
