I just bought a tachometer for my 1970 40 hp evinrude I'm needing to know what the poles need to be set at on the back of the tachometer. My Seloc Manual says nothing about it.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Re: Tachometer Poles

Hate to tell you this, but it won't work. "Poles" refers to an alternator tach. Your 1970 doesn't have an alternator. If anything, it may have a DC generator, which won't drive a tachometer. You need a tachometer for a magneto. Pretty rare these days.

Re: Tachometer Poles

Might be that the tach has a "P" on the back and it refers to pulses. If so, I would assume the 8 position is what you want. If it is poles, like FR says, you'll need to keep shoppin'.
Good luck
