Just took delivery of my new Nautic Star 1800 w/ 90 hp Yamaha. Trying to break it in according to the manual and the tach is looney. According to the tach I idle @2200rpm and WOT is off the scale way past 7000. I know the motor is not turning anywhere these numbers. It is a Faria Tach, any suggestions?

Re: Tachometer Troubles

Hi,
It is usually a selector switch at the back on a tachometer where the number of poles is set.
12 alternator poles I belive for Yamaha 90 hp 2-strokes.
On Yamaha 90 hp 4-strokes it should be the same.

You can visit Faria instrument homepage and chek a tachometer installation guide if you want.

Link
